(1996) Walter J. Reynolds [S071] has provided a lineage for the Entsmingers extending back to Alsace, in France, in the sixteenth century:
I. Hans Ensminger, ~1580-12/26/1630, married Christine __ in Alsace.
II. A son of his was Jacob or Adam Ensminger, probably born 1610-
1612.
III. A son of his was Philip Ensminger, 7/1639-1/15/1712. He died in
Waldhambach, Alsace.
IV. A son of his was Philip Ensminger, b. ~1666. He left
Waldhambach ~1695, lived in Mattstall 1718-23, then moved to
Langensoultzbach. He was married 1st to Elizabeth __ ~1691, 2nd
to Margaret Hoerth in Durstel, Alsace (from 1696 to 1705).
V. A son of his was Henry Ensminger, b. 1705. He immigrated to
America, arriving in Philadelphia in 1741.
VI. A son of his was Henry Jr. ([R403], this entry), b. 1725 in Alsace.
He arrived with his parents in Philadelphia in 1741. Henry Jr. was
the first to spell his name with a “t,” Entsminger.
The following is quoted from p. 27 of [S038]. “Henry Ensminger (his son added a ‘t’) landed at Philadelphia in 1741 at age 36 and went to Cocalico [Pa.], as his brothers had in 1733 and 1738. With him was son, Henry Jr and possibly other children. There is no record of Henry Sr after 1741. With him on the ship were the Eisenhowers, ancestors of President Dwight Eisenhower.
“In 1744 Henry Jr married at Muddy Creek Barbara Crantzdorf. At the 1751 and 1753 baptisms of his children at Muddy Creek he is ‘Henry Jr’. Henry Jr was in York Co in 1747; in Brecknock Twp, Lancaster Co in 1756; in Augusta (later Rockbridge) Co, Va in 1768 [actually Bath County; see below]; in Rockbridge Co, Va in 1782; in what is now Gallia Co, Ohio in 1802, where he died in 1806. His wife according to the Bible record of son, John, was born Mar 1-1719, also shown
(1) John b 1757, agrees with baptism record in Lancaster Co, son of
Henry and Barbara;
(2) Henry married Barbara 1744, agrees with Stoever marriage record;
(3) Barbara born 1719; she was 26 when her first child was born and
about 49, when her last child was born;
(4) Henry died Aug 7-1806 in Ohio; his will, Gallia County, Ohio, was
written March 29-1806.
